35 Ways to use Social Media

A lot of people use Social Media in completely the wrong way, bleating out the first thing that comes in to their heads or flashing up their adverts at the drop of a hat. There are right ways and wrong ways to connect on Twitter. Imagine walking in to a party and introducing yourself to a stranger. Would you immediately try and sell to the first person you bumped in to or would you try and engage with them first? I think you know the answer.

Here is a list of 35 things you ‘could’ tweet about without coming across as a boorish moron. It is by no means complete and you may not agree with some of the points, but it is a way of engagemnet over bleating! More about this at Blogworld.

Reveal tricks on Facebook

Many companies have content on their facebook company page that can only be seen if you ‘like’ the page. I skirted around this for a long time even talking to a guy at Facebook myself before I stumbled across a post on Twitter that revealed all! Basically what you need to do is to give something away, something that can only be seen when the visitor likes your page. In our case on Shoes.co.uk we give access to the sign up form to the £100 monthly competition, but that’s not the best use and we are working on better ones. Some companies give ‘like’ only vouchers.

Anyhow this page gives you the tools you need to create ‘like’ only content. You need to be familiar with FBML (Facebook Markup Language) boxes – but its fairly straightforward.

If the gift is good enough you will ramp up your followers!
